Tyrants and Despots

As we approach the age of the Anti-Messiah, the increase in tyranny is palatable, and it leaves a nasty taste on our souls. Everywhere we turn there is another despot waiting to take charge, inflicting pain upon anyone with a conscious. Unfortunately, these tyrants are the ones to whom we’ve given the responsibility for teaching us right from wrong; a distinction that they themselves seem unable to make properly, yet they continue to write the laws of the land.

Water, a God-given element that is necessary in large amounts for the proper functioning of our bodies, access to which has always been guaranteed to any who needed it, is now being restricted just as much as any other natural resource. Collecting rainwater now illegal in many states as Big Government claims ownership over our water and it’s not just the individual that is under attack, as the government is keeping Tombstone, Ariz. from accessing drinking water that they had been accessing since the 1880’s. The pipeline was damaged during a forest fire and the monsoon season, and the present administration has filed a lawsuit to prevent them from fixing the pipeline under a strange interpretation of the Wilderness Act. The government’s suggestion that the city should fix the problem with shovels and a horse is absolutely ludicrous!

For the love of money is a root of all sorts of evil, and some by longing for it have wandered away from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. (1 Timothy 6:10)

It seems that there is nothing more valuable to the average American than money. It constantly amazes me what people will do for money. The average New Covenant believer (Christian) is not immune to its lure, as too many watchmen are more interested in converting cash currency into gold and silver then preparing people for the tribulations ahead.

The tyrants among us understand the allure of money, and use it to their advantage. It has been discovered that most people can be bought, their moral compass easily compromised, if the right amount can be found. A one-time Christian singer who wasn’t making much money and decided to do something about it has been quoted as saying, “I guess you could say that I sold my soul to the devil.” At least she’s being honest; too many of us have sold out yet continue to wear the mask of faith. The average person may be fooled, but there is no fooling Adonai.

The word despot is becoming more common these days. Its original meaning is, “master of a household, lord, absolute ruler,” but has come to mean any person who acts like a tyrant. Claiming unlimited power, they oppress any and all who would come against them and as we can plainly see, their increase does not bode well for the Body of Messiah. Listen up folks, there is a reason the Great Tribulation is called the Time of Jacob’s Trouble.

Jacob is the given name of a man later called Israel, and since the Jews are the most well known of the children of Israel, many falsely believe that Jacob’s Trouble is a time of trouble only for the Jews. However, tyrants and despots attack those who have any moral foundation and they don’t care who they hurt. Like Esau before them, today’s despots care little for justice and mercy, and have only evil plans for the children of Jacob.

Years ago I believed that there was no way that the Anti-Messiah could rise up to power while the Christians remained on the planet; the good people of God would never allow such an evil person to gain power and would rise up too strongly against him for his success. I have since changed my mind; today’s New Covenant believers (and even the Old Covenant believers) care little for justice and mercy. It didn’t take much to buy them off either; it turned out that a little entertainment was all that was needed. “Seeker friendly” churches care little about the souls of their congregants; they seek numbers for numbers translates into money, which has become the sign of success even within the Body of Messiah. How sad.

Alas! for that day is great, so that none is like it: it is even the time of Jacob’s trouble, but he shall be saved out of it. (Jeremiah 30:7)

Having lived during an age of tyrants and despots, Jeremiah understood what it was like to live during a time of tribulation. This prophet coined the term terrorists, announcing terror on every side. As we are now living in a time of terrorist and terrorism, we should pay close attention to what Jeremiah has to say. He goes on to tell us:

‘For I am with you,’ declares the Lord, ‘to save you; for I will destroy completely all the nations where I have scattered you, only I will not destroy you completely. But I will chasten you justly and will by no means leave you unpunished.’ (Jeremiah 30:11)

He will not destroy us… completely. This indicates that there will be some of us who are caught up during this time – martyrs. He will chastise His people, refining us to remove the dross. Chasten, another word used rarely these days, means to inflict suffering upon for purposes of moral improvement; we are not talking about penalties for bad behavior, but correction to improve our good behavior. Each time we step outside of His will, as a loving Father it is His responsibility to steer us back on course and due to our natural stubborn desire to do things our own way, His corrections often require pain.

We should not desire to be rescued from calamity, but desire His strength and guidance through it all. “Rapture practice” is only for people who do not believe that God can protect them in the midst of tribulation, and these same people will find their faith severely tested once they realize that the Anit-Messiah as taken his throne, and they have not been raptured out as promised by their leaders.

Those who study their Bible from beginning to end understand that Adonai has a purpose for His people in the end times. Although few in number, the true called-out assembly of God will shine forth like the noon-day sun and the darkness will not be able to overcome the brightness of their shining. These are the true children of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the true Israel; those who are obedient to God in the face of great tribulation will not be put to shame, but will stand firm in the face of the enemy.

These are the same people who are experiencing tribulation RIGHT NOW, whether it be the shake-up of their church, family, or the uprising of Islamic hordes who seek only to remove their heads… or burn them alive in the very buildings that should be a sanctuary from the evil hordes. Under the rule of tyrants, there is no respect for tradition or religion; in fact, respect is no longer earned, but demanded at gunpoint. Good has become bad, while the rewards for evil are great. Therefore we find a marked increase in bad behavior even in the best of churches and families.

The Lord is shaking His people as never before, preparing us for the trouble that lies ahead. Learning to rely upon Him now, through daily prayer and sacrifice (of our wants and desires), will give us the strength we need to overcome the judgments around us, as well as the constant attacks of the enemy.

Behold, an hour is coming, and has already come, for you to be scattered, each to his own home, and to leave Me alone; and yet I am not alone, because the Father is with Me. These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” (John 16:32-33)

Just as Yeshua overcame the world, we too have been called to overcome the temptations of the world and rely completely upon Him for our protection and our guidance as well as our provisions. Money will eventually run out, but Adonai’s provisions will never expire. When tempted to “go along to get along,” or to compromise our beliefs for the job or relationship or whatever, we should bear in mind the wondrous benefits available to those who stand firm and overcome the world…

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, I will grant to eat of the tree of life which is in the Paradise of God.’ (Revelation 2:7)

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. He who overcomes will not be hurt by the second death.’ (Revelation 2:11)

He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To him who overcomes, to him I will give some of the hidden manna, and I will give him a white stone, and a new name written on the stone which no one knows but he who receives it.’ (Revelation 2:17)

He who overcomes, and he who keeps My deeds until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations; (Revelation 2:26)

He who overcomes will thus be clothed in white garments; and I will not erase his name from the book of life, and I will confess his name before My Father and before His angels. (Revelation 3:5)

He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of My God, and he will not go out from it anymore; and I will write on him the name of My God, and the name of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God, and My new name. (Revelation 3:12)

He who overcomes, I will grant to him to sit down with Me on My throne, as I also overcame and sat down with My Father on His throne. (Revelation 3:21)

For Victims and Tyrants

We pray to You this day mindful of the sorry confusion of our world. Look with mercy upon this generation of Your children so steeped in misery of their own contriving, so far strayed from Your ways and so blinded by passions. We pray for the victims of tyranny, that they may resist oppression with courage and may preserve their integrity by a hope which defies the terror of the moment. We pray for wicked and cruel men, whose arrogance reveals to us what the sin of our own hearts is like when it has conceived a brought forth its final fruit. O God, who resists the proud and gives grace to the humble, bring down the mighty from their seats.

- Reinhold Niebuhr

Teach Us to Pray

Lord, teach us to pray. Some of us are not skilled in the art of prayer. As we draw near to Thee in thought, our spirits long for Thy Spirit, and reach out for Thee, longing to feel Thee near. We know not how to express the deepest emotions that lie hidden in our hearts.

In these moments, we have no polished phrases with which to impress one another, no finely moulded, delicately turned clauses to present to Thee. Nor would we be confined to conventional petitions and repeat our prayers like the unwinding of a much-exposed film. We know, our Father, that we are praying most when we are saying least. We know that we are closest to Thee when we have left behind the things that have held us captive so long.

We would not be ignorant in prayer and, like children, make want lists for Thee. Rather, we pray that Thou wilt give unto us only what we really need. We would not make our prayers the importuning of Thee, and omnipotent God, to do what we want Thee to do. Rather, give us the vision, the courage, that shall enlarge our horizons and stretch our faith to the adventure of seeking Thy loving will for our lives.

We thank Thee that Thou art hearing us even now. We thank Thee for the grace of prayer. We thank Thee for Thyself.

Loving God Above All Things

God, I give You the praise for days well spent. But I am yet unsatisfied, because I do not enjoy enough of You. I apprehend myself at too great a distance from You. I would have my soul more closely united to You by faith and love. You know, Lord, that I would love You above all things. You know me, You know my desires, my expectations. My joys all center in You and it is You that I desire. It is Your favor, Your acceptance, the communications of You grace that I earnestly wish for more than anything in the world.

Friendship with God

In my research into prayers, and most importantly my search for prayers for this website, I often come across words of wisdom that are not prayers in and of themselves, but are words to contemplate when thinking of beginning a daily prayer schedule. The following statement was made by Teresa Avila, who was born in Avila, Spain in 1515. In 1534, at the age of twenty, she entered to monastery of the Incarnation of the Carmelite nuns at Avila, where she suffered from illness. In 1559, Teresa became firmly convinced that Christ was present in her in bodily form, though invisible. This vision lasted almost uninterruptedly for more than two years. She died in 1582m having founded a number of convents, and was canonized forty years after her death. In this passage she describes some of the benefits of prayer.

“Anyone who has not begun to prayer, I beg, for love of the Lord, not to miss so great a blessing. There is no place here for fear, but only desire. For, even if a person fails to make progress, or to strive after perfection, so that he may merit the consolations and favors given to the perfect by God, yet he will gradually gain a knowledge of the road to heaven. And if he perseveres, I hope in the mercy of God, whom no one has ever taken for a friend without being rewarded; and mental prayer, in my view, is nothing but friendly intercourse, and frequent solitary converse, with Him whom we know loves us. If love is to be true and friendship lasting, certain conditions are necessary: on the Lord’s side we know these cannot fail, but our nature is vicious, sensual and ungrateful. You cannot therefore succeed in loving Him as much as He loves you, because it is not in your nature to do so. If, then, you do not yet love Him, you will realize how much it means to you to have His friendship and how much He loves you, and you will gladly endure the troubles which arise from being so much with One who is so different from you.”

If we want to know Adonai, and be known by Him, then we must spend time with Him every day, not just one or two days of the week like so many of His people believe. If we want to know Him, and be known by Him in that day, we must take the time to develop a life of prayer. The last thing we want to hear in that day is that we are not known by the Father, nor the Son who was sent to redeem us.

“Strive to enter through the narrow door; for many, I tell you, will seek to enter and will not be able. Once the head of the house gets up and shuts the door, and you begin to stand outside and knock on the door, saying, ‘Lord, open up to us!’ then He will answer and say to you, ‘I do not know where you are from.’ Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in Your presence, and You taught in our streets’; and He will say, ‘I tell you, I do not know where you are from; DEPART FROM ME, ALL YOU EVILDOERS.’” (Luke 13:24-27)

It doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see the signs of the times; it won’t be too much longer until the persecution of God’s people begins in earnest, and if we want to be protected under the shadow of His wings, we need to stop playing at being people of faith and begin being the royal priesthood Adonai has called us to become. What is preventing us from daily spending time in prayer? Figure it out and rid yourself of this distraction, for anything that takes us away from fellowship with the Most High God must be sacrificed if we are to be sanctified and set apart for His good pleasure.

For the Forgiveness of Sin

To You, O God, Fountain of Mercy, I come, a sinner. May You wash away my impurity. O Sun of Justice, give sight to the blind. O Eternal Healer, cure the wounded. O King of Kings, restore the despoiled. O Mediator of God and man, reconcile the sinful. O Good Shepherd, lead back the straying.

O God, have pity on the wretched, show leniency to the guilty, bestow life on the dead, reform the impious, and give the balm of grace to the hard of heart. O most merciful God, call back the one who flees, draw back the one who resists, lift up the one who falls, support the one who stands, and accompany the one who walk.

Do not forget those who forget You. Do not desert those who desert You. Do not despise those who sin against You. For in sinning, I have offended You, my God; I have harmed my neighbor; I have not even spared myself injury.

I have sinned, O my God, against You, almighty Father, because of my weakness; against You, all-knowing Son, because of my ignorance; against You, merciful Holy Spirit, because of my malice. Thus I have offended You, most high Trinity.

Woe to me, a pitiful soul! How many, how great, and how diverse are the sins I have committed. I abandoned You, Lord. I question Your goodness, by yielding to evil cravings and weakening myself with harmful fears.

By such things, I preferred to lose You rather than abandon what I desired, to offend You rather than face what ought not be feared. O my God, how much harm have I done by word and deed, and by sinning secretly, openly, and defiantly.

Therefore, out of my weakness I bed You not to pay heed to my iniquity, but rather to Your immense goodness. And I beg You mercifully to pardon what I have done, granting me sorrow for my past actions and precaution in the future. Amen.

A Peaceful Night

Lord, let Your light be only for the day, and the darkness for the night. And let my dress, my poor humble dress lie quietly over my chair at night.

Let the church-bells be silent, my neighbor Ivan not right them at night. Let the wind not awaken the children out of their sleep at night.

Let the hen sleep on its roost, the horse in the stable all through the night. Remove the stone from the middle of the road that the thief may not stumble at night.

Let heaven be quiet during the night. Restrain the lightning, silence the thunder, they should not frighten mothers giving birth to their babies at night.

And me too protect against fire and water, protect my poor roof at night. Let my dress, my poor humble dress lie quietly over my chair at night.

What is the Torah Portion?

Anyone who has visited this website, regardless of the page displayed, will have seen a certain set of verses on the right hand column under the heading, “Daily Torah Portion.” I’m sure there have been many who have wondered, “What exactly is the Torah portion?” Well, this post is to answer that question.

Because it is understood that the first five books of the Bible, those attributed to Moses, dictated by Adonai atop Mt. Sinai, are the basis for all Judeo-Christian beliefs, the Jewish people have split these books up in such a way as to allow the reader to read through all five books within one year’s time. Each portion is read on its corresponding Sabbath at the local synagogue, so that all of Israel is studying the same section at the same time. These weekly portions can also be broken down into daily portions as well, allowing the believer to take a little bit at a time to meditate upon, so that by the end of the week he or she is better prepared to assemble with other like-minded believers to discuss (midrash) the Torah.

So why do we refer to these five books as the Torah? It is because they contain the teachings, or Law that Adonai gave unto Moses all those centuries ago, and the Hebrew word for teachings (most often translated as Law) is the word torah.

DB Definition:

1) law, direction, instruction

1a) instruction, direction (human or divine)

1a1) body of prophetic teaching

1a2) instruction in Messianic age

1a3) body of priestly direction or instruction

1a4) body of legal directives

1b) law

1b1) law of the burnt offering

1b2) of special law, codes of law

1c) custom, manner

1d) the Deuteronomic or Mosaic Law

It is my firm belief that without this foundation, this knowledge of the instructions that Adonai gave us for how to live a life of righteousness, we cannot possibly understand what Yeshua came to accomplish and why His action brought salvation to whomever believes in Him. Unless we understand these instructions we will never, ever understand the teachings of Paul, for he was a Torah scholar, and even Peter spoke of the difficulty in understanding what Paul is teaching, and Peter sat at the foot of Yeshua Himself!

Therefore, beloved, since you look for these things, be diligent to be found by Him in peace, spotless and blameless, and regard the patience of our Lord as salvation; just as also our beloved brother Paul, according to the wisdom given him, wrote to you, as also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. (2 Peter 3:14-16)

Some things that Paul wrote are hard to understand, so we have to go back to Torah in order to know where Paul was coming from. Without this foundation, Paul’s teachings are too easily misinterpreted and misunderstood, to our own detriment. Therefore it behooves us to diligently search all of the Scriptures, but especially those which are considered the foundation of our faith, and even more so as we see the day of judgment approaching.

It is my desire to help other like-minded believers to learn how to walk out this life of faith to which Adonai called us and Yeshua paid the price for our admittance. We must learn to work out our salvation, so that we can walk in His protection while the entire world around us crumbles to pieces. This is the calling of the end-time saint and if we want to be strong enough to stand in that day, without fear of failing, then we need to start preparations today, while there is still time.

Let’s take a little bit of time each and every day to read the instructions and teachings of Adonai and the faith that feels so small today will continue to grow until it can indeed move mountains. Although Leviticus, Numbers and Deuteronomy might seem unbearable at first, once we take the time to get to know them we soon discover that they are not so boring, mundane or even terrifying as we might have believed previously. The new portion begins tomorrow; why not return and read the day’s portion right here, for It’s Time to build up our muscles of faith.

Before Reading the Torah Portion

Thine, O Lord, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is Thine; Thine, O Lord, is the kingdom, and the supremacy as head over all. Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship at His footstool: holy is He. Exalt ye the Lord our God, and worship at His holy mount; for the Lord our God is holy.

Magnified and hallowed, praised and glorified, exalted and extolled above all be the name of the Supreme King of Kings, the holy One, blessed be He, in the worlds which He hath created, – this world and the world to come, – in accordance with His desire, and with the desire of them that fear Him, and of all the house of Israel: the Rock everlasting, the Lord of all creatures, the God of all souls; who dwelleth in the wide-extended heights, who inhabiteth the heaven of heavens of old; whose holiness is about the Celestial beings and above the throne of glory. Now, therefore, Thy name, O Lord our God, shall be hallowed amongst us in the sight of all living. Let us sing a new song before Him, as it is written, “Sing unto God, sing praises unto His name, extol ye Him that rideth upon the heavens by His name Yah, and exult before Him.” And may we see Him, eye to eye, when He returneth to His habitation, as it is written, “For they shall see eye to eye, when the Lord returneth unto Zion.” And it is said, “And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it together; for the mouth of the Lord hath spoken it.”

May the Father of mercy have mercy upon a people that have been borne by Him. May He remember the covenant with the patriarchs, deliver our souls from evil hours, check the evil inclination in them that have been carried by him, grant us of His grace an everlasting deliverance, and in the attribute of His goodness fulfill our desires by salvation and mercy. And may He help, shield and save all who trust in Him, and let us say, Amen.

Before Study

Ineffable Creator, who, from the treasures of Your wisdom, have established three hierarchies of angels, have arrayed them in marvelous order above the fiery heavens, and have marshaled the regions of the universe with such artful skill, You are proclaimed the true font of light and wisdom, and the primal origin raised high beyond all things.

Pour forth a ray of Your brightness into the darkened places of my mind; disperse from my soul the twofold darkness into which I was born: sin and ignorance. You make eloquent the tongues of infants. Refine my speech and pour forth upon my lips the goodness of Your blessing.

Grant to me keenness of mind, capacity to remember, skill in learning, subtlety to interpret, and eloquence in speech. May You guide the beginning of my work, direct its progress, and bring it to completion. You who are true God and true Man, who live and reign, world without end. Amen.
